Introduction

Summary

A transverse sinusoidal wave which you can modify the frequency and the wavelength.
Particle displacement is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. The red particle motion indicates that all particles simply oscillate up and down around their individual equilibrium positions.

Goals

  • To distinguish longitudinal from transverse waves.
  • To modify the principal characteristics of a wave.
  • To show that the particles simply oscillate about their individual equilibrium positions.

Features

Click and drag the to modify the frequency and the wavelength.

Click on 'Amplitude' and drag the cursor "A" to adjust a new amplitude.
